Configuration Manager

Join Safran Engineering Services as a Configuration Manager and become part of a growing team delivering innovative engineering solutions. Based onsite in Pitstone, you will be at the heart of configuration management activities, ensuring project data is accurately controlled and maintained throughout the product lifecycle.

As a key member of the team, you will oversee the management of configuration items within the company's Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool, working closely with stakeholders and the UK Configuration Management Leader to maintain data integrity, traceability, and compliance.

  • Perform CM planning for new and existing projects, defining an effective tailored CM Implementation, to meet Business/Customer specific Configuration requirements.
  • Support the identification of contract/subcontract requirements to ensure effective CM performance of partners and suppliers.
  • Write and maintain the CM Plan in accordance with Safran policies and contractual/tender requirements and implement the Approved CM Plan within the Project.
  • Participate in the creation and management of Configuration Items (CI’s), Product Structures & Bill of Materials (BOM’s) in Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) tool, as well as in the design / stage reviews (Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design review (CDR)…).
  • Be responsible for the establishment & maintenance of configuration baselines (for example Functional Baseline (FBL), Allocated Baseline (ABL), Product Baseline (PBL)).
  • Implement the configuration change management system and manage internal Change Control Boards (CCBs) as Co-Chair, co-ordinate and control the configuration change process for all change activity and ensure design change is traceable throughout design and implementation from End-2-End.
  • Establish, maintain and release the milestone Configuration Documentation to track design evolution and implementation, to capture, verify and control configuration information.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years Configuration Management experience in a rigorous engineering/technical or data management environment.
  • Working knowledge of CM Standards: ISO10007.
  • Experience in Aerospace, Space, Military, Automotive, or Petro-Chemical Industry.
  • Excellent logical thinker.
  • Full Configuration Management knowledge is required in:
    • Configuration Planning and management: Create a Configuration Management plan (CMP) to guide the CM program.
    • Configuration Identification: Define and manage CIs within a project or product & establish baselines for documentation, specifications, drawings, and software.
    • Configuration Control: Implement and administer change control procedures, review and coordinate change requests (Engineering Change Requests/Orders) and ensure all changes are documented, assessed, and approved.
    • Configuration Status Accounting: Maintain accurate records of configuration data, baselines, and changes and produce reports that provide traceability and status of all configuration items.
    • Configuration Audits: Plan and conduct configuration audits to verify compliance with requirements and ensure that products conform to their documented standards and baselines.
    • Documentation Management: Manage technical documentation related to product configuration (specifications, drawings, BOMs, software releases) and ensure controlled access and distribution of configuration documents.
    • Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, project management, and suppliers, and facilitate communication and alignment across different teams to support configuration activities.
    • Compliance: Ensure adherence to configuration management standards (e.g., EN9100, ISO 10007, internal Safran processes), and support audits and certification activities.
    • Process Improvement: Develop and refine configuration management processes and tools and train and mentor staff on configuration management best practices.
