Job Description
We are looking for experienced Configuration Managers to join an engineering team in Pitstone. The team is looking for two Configuration Managers with around 5+ years' experience and one Senior/Lead Configuration Manager with significant Configuration Management experience.
The role will be responsible for ensuring effective Configuration Management across complex engineering projects, maintaining configuration baselines, controlling engineering changes, and ensuring the accuracy, integrity and full traceability of product information throughout the product lifecycle.
The team has recently migrated to a Windchill PLM environment, creating a strong focus on data quality, configuration governance, product structures and the alignment of engineering information across PLM, ERP, drawings and BOMs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain Configuration Management Plans for new and existing projects, tailored to project and contractual requirements.
- Provide Configuration Management guidance and support to project, engineering and cross-functional teams.
- Define, manage and maintain Configuration Items (CIs), product structures and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Establish and maintain configuration baselines, including Functional, Allocated and Product Baselines.
- Manage configuration identification and ensure that product information is correctly structured and controlled within the PLM environment.
- Analyse engineering and PLM data to identify inconsistencies, configuration gaps and data-quality issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure alignment and consistency between PLM, ERP, engineering drawings, specifications and BOM structures.
- Implement and coordinate configuration change control processes and support or co-chair Change Control Boards (CCBs).
- Ensure engineering changes are fully documented, assessed, approved, implemented and traceable end-to-end.
- Maintain accurate configuration status records and configuration documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in engineering and design reviews, including PDR and CDR.
- Support configuration audits and ensure compliance with relevant standards, processes and contractual requirements.
- Establish, maintain and release configuration documentation at key project milestones.
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Project Management teams and external stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve Configuration Management processes, tools, governance and ways of working.
- Support the continuous improvement of configuration data integrity and product information management within the PLM environment.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Configuration Management within a rigorous engineering, technical or data management environment.
- Strong knowledge of Configuration Management principles, processes and best practices.
- Working knowledge of ISO 10007.
- Strong understanding of configuration planning, identification, control, status accounting and configuration audits.
- Strong understanding of technical documentation, product structures, BOMs, Configuration Items and configuration baselines.
- Experience with engineering change management, change control and configuration traceability.
- Experience working with PLM/PDM systems, ideally Windchill or a comparable system such as Teamcenter, ENOVIA or similar.
- Ability to analyse complex engineering/product data and identify inconsistencies or configuration issues.
- Good understanding of the relationship between PLM, ERP, drawings, specifications and BOM/product structures.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
- CMII certification or equivalent practical Configuration Management experience would be advantageous.
- Relevant higher education qualification or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable:
- Experience within Aerospace, Space, Defence/Military, Automotive or other highly regulated engineering environments.
- Experience with Windchill, particularly configuration management, product structures, BOMs, data quality or PLM migration activities.
- Experience working in sensitive or controlled-data environments.
- Experience supporting or leading Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), configuration audits and engineering change processes.
- Experience with PDR/CDR and formal engineering development environments.
- French or German language skills.
Senior / Lead Configuration Manager:
For the Senior/Lead position, we are looking for significant Configuration Management experience with the ability to operate autonomously, provide guidance to other Configuration Managers and drive improvements in Configuration Management governance, processes and data integrity.
The Senior/Lead profile should be comfortable resolving complex configuration and product-data issues, supporting CCBs and audits, and working across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and Project teams.
Additional Information
Working Environment:
The role is based in Pitstone. Due to the nature of the project and the recent PLM migration, the initial period will require a strong onsite presence for onboarding, knowledge transfer and collaboration with the existing team. (3-4 days onsite)
Once established, there may be scope to reduce onsite attendance to approximately one day per week, depending on experience, project requirements and team needs.
Contract: Initial 6-month requirement, with expected extension.
