Configuration Engineer - PLM - Buckinghamshire - Permanent - £55k
The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Configuration Engineer to join a leading organisation within the defence sector. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the management and control of engineering configuration across both legacy and new product development programmes.
You'll be responsible for creating, implementing and maintaining configuration management processes while supporting the transition to a SolidWorks Manage PLM environment. Working closely with engineering, quality and project teams, you'll ensure robust configuration control, effective change management and compliance with customer and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply aerospace configuration management standards across engineering products and configured items.
- Manage problem reports, change requests and engineering change notifications using SolidWorks Manage.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of configuration and change management processes.
- Coordinate and chair Change Control Board (CCB) meetings in line with aerospace configuration best practice.
- Generate and manage customer approvals and notifications relating to engineering changes.
- Maintain and audit configuration baselines throughout the product lifecycle.
- Create and manage dashboards to monitor Change Requests, Problem Reports and Non-Conformance Reports.
- Ensure the quality and integrity of engineering documentation, providing guidance to design engineers and supporting quality audits.
- Govern and maintain company-wide PDM/PLM systems, including ongoing development and optimisation.
- Support engineering drawing and document reviews and approval processes.
- Manage configuration requirements associated with customer contracts.
- Produce customer-specific Configuration Management Plans.
- Work closely with engineering teams on drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), firmware and other controlled engineering data.
- Support the Chief Engineer with customer deliverable documentation and collaborate with Document Control to ensure a consistent approach.

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years' experience within an aerospace or defence engineering environment, ideally in a Configuration Management role.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience using PDM/PLM and Configuration Management systems, such as:
- SolidWorks Manage
- Windchill
- AllChange
- or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of engineering change control and configuration management principles.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple configuration activities simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across engineering, quality and programme teams.

Working Pattern
- 4 days per week on-site
