Connect: Direct / Managed File Transfer Engineer
Location: Edinburgh or London or Manchester (Hybrid)
Rate: Competitive (Inside IR35)
Contract Length: Initial 6 months
Start Date: ASAP
We are seeking an experienced Connect: Direct / Managed File Transfer (MFT) Engineer to join a large-scale enterprise environment, supporting critical file transfer infrastructure and integration services across business and technology teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for a specialist engineer with strong experience in secure file transfer technologies, operational support, and platform engineering within a complex, highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, support, and enhance IBM Sterling Connect: Direct file transfer services.
- Manage and monitor enterprise-wide managed file transfer (MFT) platforms.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and optimise file transfer processes and workflows.
- Support onboarding of new applications, partners, and data feeds.
- Investigate and resolve incidents, service disruptions, and performance issues.
- Implement security controls, encryption standards, certificates, and access management.
- Work closely with infrastructure, network, security, and application teams to deliver reliable data transfer solutions.
- Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and support materials.
- Participate in platform upgrades, migrations, and continual improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM Sterling Connect: Direct.
- Experience supporting Managed File Transfer (MFT) environments.
- Knowledge of SFTP, FTPS, SCP, HTTPS, SSH, and secure data transfer protocols.
- Experience administering Linux and/or Unix environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills.
- Understanding of network concepts including firewalls, DNS, load balancing, and TCP/IP.
- Experience working within ITIL-based support environments.
- Excellent stakeholder communication and documentation skills.

- IBM Sterling File Gateway.
- IBM Sterling Secure Proxy.
- IBM Control Centre.
- Automation and scripting (Shell, Python, PowerShell).
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Financial Services or other highly regulated industries.
