About The Role

National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

Due to continuous growth, we are looking for a Strategic Demand Data Analysts to support the development of high-quality insight on future electricity demand at transmission level. This role sits at the centre of NESO’s Strategic Demand activity, working with complex, evolving datasets to inform system planning, policy development, regulatory engagement, and operational decision-making.

The successful candidate will analyse demand-related data from customer submissions, internal operational systems, and external sources to identify trends, risks, and emerging patterns. They will support evidence-based narratives for senior leadership, regulators, and industry, and play a key role in responding to time-critical data requests, including Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, Parliamentary Questions, and external reporting requirements.

This is a fast-paced, analytical role requiring strong judgement, curiosity, and the ability to translate ambiguous questions into clear, structured analysis.

This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick or Glasgow, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead high-quality, forward-looking analysis of demand-related datasets to strengthen NESO’s strategic understanding of current and future transmission demand, enabling more confident system planning, policy positioning, and investment decision-making.
  • Proactively identify strategic trends, risks, opportunities, outliers, and emerging demand patterns that could materially influence network investment, whole-system planning, customer outcomes, and policy development.
  • Develop and apply robust analytical frameworks that shape strategic scenarios, inform policy choices, and support operational planning across NESO, turning complex data into evidence-led recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Strategic Demand Business Analyst to align, integrate, and validate upstream data, assumptions, and classifications.
  • Support the development of insight-led narratives, briefings, and visual outputs for senior leadership, regulatory engagement, strategy teams, and industry forums.
  • Respond to urgent or specialised insight requests from Strategy, Reform, Operations, Planning, or Senior Leadership Team (SLT), often to tight timescales and with incomplete information.
  • Translate ambiguous or high-level questions into clear analytical tasks, agreeing scope, assumptions, limitations, and confidence levels with stakeholders.
  • Ensure that analytical outputs are reproducible, appropriately documented, and aligned with NESO’s data governance, assurance, and information management standards.
  • Support stakeholder engagement by preparing data-backed materials for industry events, customer discussions, and cross-organisational workshops.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), we play a vital role in tackling climate change and securing Great Britain's energy future. We already operate the world's fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards our ambition to run it carbon-free for a short period this year - provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources. Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.
