Location: Waltham Abbey, Essex
Hours: 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday
Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 dependent on experience
Holiday: 38 Days incl. Bank holidays

Our client is a specialist contractor in hard metal roofing, cladding, and façade systems, delivering bespoke solutions for both commercial and residential projects across the UK and internationally. They provide a full end-to-end service from design and fabrication through to installation, working with high-quality materials and offering tailored solutions for projects ranging from simple structures to complex, large-scale developments. With a strong reputation for quality, safety, and technical expertise, our client combines industry experience with a customer-focused approach to consistently deliver high-standard, sustainable roofing solutions.
As a buyer you'll be responsible for procuring roofing and cladding materials, plant, equipment and services, ensuring cost-effective purchasing and the timely delivery of all project requirements. You will be collaborating closely with Project Managers, the Design Team and suppliers to manage procurement schedules, maintain supply chain relationships and resolve delivery or quality issues.
Position Duties
- Procuring roofing and cladding materials, goods and services to meet project requirements.
- Scheduling the timely delivery of materials, plant and equipment to construction sites.
- Negotiating competitive prices with suppliers to achieve best value for the business.
- Working closely with Project Managers, the Design Team and Procurement Manager to support project delivery.
- Managing supplier relationships and maintaining a reliable supply chain.
- Monitoring material costs and reporting price increases, updating internal records and spreadsheets.
- Tracking purchase orders and resolving any delivery delays or supply issues.
- Arranging the return and replacement of damaged or non-conforming materials.
- Ensuring materials are delivered on time and within budget to prevent project delays.
- Managing the procurement of long lead-time items alongside urgent site requirements.
- Processing purchase orders and maintaining accurate purchase ledger records.
- Reading construction drawings and completing material take-offs where required.
- Identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and programme requirements.
- Supporting efficient procurement processes and ensuring continuity of supply across multiple projects.

Position Requirements
- Previous experience or relevant qualifications in procurement and inventory management.
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent negotiation skills to secure the best pricing and commercial terms.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload across multiple construction projects, balancing long lead-time materials with urgent site requirements.
- Proactive approach to identifying potential supply chain issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong supplier and stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to team and company objectives.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to implement and follow robust procurement processes and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications (preferred).
- Experience in roofing, cladding or the wider construction industry is desirable, although full training will be provided.
- Ability to undertake material take-offs would be advantageous, with training available if required.
- A full driving licence is essential, as the office is not accessible by public transport.

- Regular working hours, with generous annual leave allowance.
- Salary up to £30,000 depending on experience.
