About The Role

Power Transmission & Distribution | Leeds

Are you an experienced construction leader looking to shape the delivery of some of the UK's most critical energy infrastructure projects?

Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission & Distribution business is seeking a Construction Director to provide strategic and operational leadership across major cabling and transmission projects. Based in Leeds, you'll play a pivotal role in driving safe, efficient and high-quality project delivery while leading multidisciplinary teams through every stage of the project lifecycle, from constructability and planning through to commissioning.

This is a senior leadership opportunity within one of the UK's leading infrastructure businesses, offering the chance to influence project strategy, develop high-performing teams and leave a lasting legacy on the UK's energy network as we support the transition to a low-carbon future.

What you'll be doing

As Construction Director, you'll hold overall accountability for construction delivery, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Providing strategic leadership across major transmission and cabling projects.
  • Ensuring construction considerations are embedded throughout design, development and delivery phases.
  • Leading Construction Managers, functional leads, technical specialists and project support teams.
  • Driving a strong culture of Zero Harm and continuous improvement.
  • Building and maintaining key relationships with clients, stakeholders, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Leading governance, reporting and performance review activities.
  • Managing project and portfolio risks, opportunities and change processes.
  • Overseeing procurement strategies and supply chain performance.
  • Driving quality, productivity and programme performance across delivery teams.
  • Taking ownership of budgets, cost control, commercial performance and cost recovery opportunities.
  • Championing data-driven decision making and the effective use of digital tools.
  • Developing talent, mentoring future leaders and building high-performing teams.

You'll Bring

  • Extensive construction leadership experience within Power Transmission & Distribution, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
  • A strong understanding of constructability and project delivery from design through to commissioning.
  • Proven experience leading large, multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including budget ownership, cost control and contract management.
  • Experience managing risk, opportunity and change across complex programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and client relationship management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • The ability to influence, inspire and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and reporting capabilities at executive and project level.
  • A strategic mindset combined with the ability to drive operational delivery.

The Following Are Desirable Or Expected

  • Degree (BSc/MSc) in Construction, Engineering, Project Management or equivalent experience.
  • APM PFQ, PMQ or PPQ.
  • CSCS and SMSTS (or equivalent).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as APM.
  • Full UK driving licence.
