Overview

The Microsoft data centre development portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large-scale, multi-year data centre construction projects. The Environmental Construction Compliance team supports the delivery of Microsoft’s data centre portfolio from pre-construction to handover to operations.

The Construction Environmental Program Manager will work within a multidisciplinary team to prepare for early works and construction, supporting the construction team to achieve schedule dates through rigorous environmental risk management across the EMEA region. Tracking, mapping and proactive intervention are a critical part of this success. This role requires regular engagement with key Microsoft stakeholders, including legal, design, construction, and operations teams, regulatory agencies, and outside consultants and contractors.

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a Construction Environmental Program Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters in 32 countries and millions of servers. Our foundation is built upon and managed by a team of subject matter experts working to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental delivery across the construction phase, coordinating with key teams to meet project timelines.
  • Clarify and coordinate environmental scopes and requirements for contractor tenders and support procurement through bid preparation, evaluation and award.
  • Assess contractor capability and resourcing, and recruit, onboard, develop and support site environmental managers.
  • Ensure environmental deliverables, control documents, permit conditions, roles and requirements are in place from project kick-off through to completion.
  • Monitor environmental performance, data quality, risks and compliance, driving corrective action and escalating issues and trends to leadership.
  • Provide environmental risk, sustainability and impact reduction expertise, build capability through training and guidance, coordinate handover to operations, and support continuous improvement of the Environmental Excellence program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, OR extensive experience
  • Significant direct experience of managing environmental risk on fast paced infrastructure projects in line with legal and project requirements and best international practice
  • Experience with implementation of Environmental Impact Assessments and other environmental permits

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Local community and stakeholder engagement experience
  • Experience in delivering projects in multiple jurisdictions

Background Check Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Compensation

Real Estate Portfolio Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the United Kingdom is £ 70,300.00 - £ 133,900.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
