Costain Construction Manager
Costain has secured significant contracts in the water sector to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been selected by United Utilities as one of 7 partners in the Enterprise, delivering £5.5bn of projects in the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) between 2025 – 2030, and AMP 9 (2030 – 2035). Our role includes providing project management, design, construction, and commissioning services on design and build schemes throughout the North West and Cumbria region covered by United Utilities. Projects range in value, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners.
Responsibilities
- Provide construction leadership and manage all aspects of construction.
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with The Costain Way.
- Put safety above all else and lead by example.
- Promote a Right First-Time approach to quality and avoid rework.
- Manage a team of staff and collaborate with other members of the project leadership team.
- Support the Project Manager in all construction matters including handover.
- Provide planning and procurement support, implementing product control and all related subcontract activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
- Knowledge and experience of standards and procedures
- Experience of working within a Principal Contractor environment
- Knowledge and experience of Temporary Works procedures
- Knowledge and experience in construction
- Experience as a Lean Practitioner
- Understanding of handover process
Desirable
- Professionally qualified or working towards professional qualification
Qualifications
Essential
- CSCS & SMSTS qualifications
- Behavioural Management training
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable
- Commercial/Business Qualification
- Chartered Engineering Qualification
