Mace Rail Construction Manager – Milton Keynes

We have an exciting opportunity for an experience Rail Construction Manager to join our team in Milton Keynes, supporting one of our key clients. This is a full-time opportunity with ad hoc travel expected around the Southern region.
About the Role
You’ll be responsible for:
- Monitoring site activities to ensure compliance with:
- All relevant rules, regulations
- Railway Group and Network Rail company standards
- Applicable procedures and legislation
- Reviewing (in conjunction with the Asset Protection Engineer) contractor’s method statements and site-specific risk assessments
- Monitoring (via liaison with Network Rail personnel) that:
- Arrangements for access, possessions, storage, worksites and related logistics are in place
- Works delivery remains efficient
- Undertaking a programme of regular inspections to:
- Assess quality of contractor’s work
- Instruct contractors within delegated authority
- Track remedial actions to closure
- Resolve non-conformance reports in an auditable manner
- Direct changes where appropriate
- Inspecting completed works, assessing readiness for formal inspection and:
- Recording outcomes
- Identifying/controling required remedial works
- Liaising with contractors to:
- Ensure “first off” examples of work elements are jointly inspected at earliest opportunity
- Agree detailed workmanship standards for consistent application
- Monitoring contractor management of site operations via:
- Regular site meetings
- Establishing details of:
- Work locations
- Scope
- Staffing levels per project element
- Tracking progress via:
- Regular site visits and inspections
- Comparing:
- Work-in-progress vs contract documentation
- Site updates provided at meetings
- Overarching programme alignment
- Maintaining consistent on-site presence across all worksites by:
- Continuously monitoring/work methods
- Correcting standards where necessary
- Remaining vigilant for shortcomings
- Managing site diary as required
- Promoting HSQE requirements through communication with contractors’ site teams
- Assessing/monitoring competency of contractor personnel pre- and throughout work phases
- Ensuring Network Rail policies compliance for:
- Accident and incident reporting
- Investigation support as required
- Managing a team of:
- Assistant Construction Managers
- Construction Management Assistants
- Coordinating work bank for the designated area
- Providing functional support to the team as directed

Requirements
- Professional membership progression: Working towards:
- MCIoB
- MAPM
- MRICS
- MICE
- (or equivalent demonstrable development)
- Sector expertise: Experience in:
- The successful delivery of rail projects and programmes
- Construction management experience
- Commercial/financial acumen development
- Ability to lead parts of construction projects in:
- Large, diverse teams
- Experience building relationships with key stakeholders
- Awareness of:
- Carbon considerations
- Sustainability drivers shaping project outlook
