We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Construction Manager to join our Area 7 account in Leicester. This role is based at Leicester Forest East Depot (LE3 3GA) and offers the opportunity to play a key role in delivering essential infrastructure improvements across the East Midlands.
Working in partnership with National Highways, Amey delivers maintenance and response services across over 1,600km of motorway and trunk road network throughout the East Midlands. Our teams are responsible for maintaining safe, reliable journeys for millions of road users every year.
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, although occasional night-time site visits may be required to support operational delivery.
The Role
Reporting to the Principal Construction Manager, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of Minor Capital Investment (MCI) schemes, ensuring projects are completed safely, to programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
You will manage a varied portfolio of highways and civil engineering projects including drainage, pavement, structures and soft estate works. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent stakeholder management skills and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer outcomes.
You will be responsible for:
- Managing projects from design handover through to successful completion.
- Delivering works safely, on programme and within budget.
- Providing regular updates on project progress, risks and design issues.
- Conducting site inspections and ensuring appropriate safety controls are in place.
- Producing and maintaining project documentation and records.
- Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and project stakeholders.
- Maintaining high standards of quality, safety and environmental compliance.
- Attending and contributing to project, programme and health and safety meetings.
- Identifying and mitigating project and site risks.
- Working closely with Commercial and Procurement teams to support project delivery.
- Planning and delivering schemes that minimise disruption to road users.
- Coordinating supervision and resource requirements with other Construction Managers.
- Ensuring works are delivered right first time and without unnecessary delays.
- Supporting measurement and valuation activities.
- Providing lessons learned and project feedback to key stakeholders.
- Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations, Chapter 8, DMRB, MCHW and all relevant health and safety legislation.

What You'll Bring
Essential
- Experience managing highways, civils, structures or maintenance projects.
- Strong understanding of construction delivery within a highways environment.
- Valid UK Driving Licence.
- IOSH or SMSTS qualification.
- CSCS Supervisory Card.
- Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain partners.
- Strong stakeholder and client management skills.
- Experience reviewing RAMS and Construction Phase Plans.
- Knowledge of permit requirements and site safety practices.

Desirable
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- ONC Level 3 in Engineering.
- Experience delivering works on high-speed road networks.
- Familiarity with High Speed Traffic Management.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, SharePoint and project management systems.
What You'll Have Knowledge Of
- CDM Regulations.
- Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
- Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW).
- Chapter 8 Traffic Management requirements.
- Risk management and commercial awareness principles.
- Highways construction and maintenance practices.
