Company Description
Amtest UK Ltd specializes in assessing the quality, durability, and performance of concrete and other construction materials, supported by in-house concrete technology consultants. Highly qualified technicians provide testing, monitoring, and surveying services for soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and core sampling, both on-site and in the laboratory. The London-based laboratory delivers comprehensive testing and analysis of cementitious products, chemical admixtures, concrete, aggregates, and soils. With a dedicated Research and Development facility, the company offers expert support through lab trials and durability tests such as Chloride Migration and Water Penetration, helping clients optimize projects from the outset.
Role Description
The Construction Materials Technician will perform day-to-day testing and inspection of construction materials, including concrete, aggregates, soils, and asphalt, following established standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

- Preparing samples
- Operating laboratory and field testing equipment
- Recording and interpreting test results
- Supporting quality control activities on construction sites
The technician will work closely with engineers and consultants to ensure accurate data collection, safe handling of materials, and timely reporting to project teams.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Northamptonshire, involving travel to local project locations as required and adherence to all health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
Qualifications
- Strong Quality Control skills, including familiarity with industry standards and procedures for construction materials testing.
- Practical Material Handling skills for safely preparing, transporting, and storing construction samples.
- Knowledge of construction Materials, particularly concrete, aggregates, soils, and asphalt, and their typical uses and behaviors.
- Solid Laboratory Skills, including sample preparation, equipment operation, accurate measurement, and data recording.
- Thorough Inspection skills for evaluating materials on-site, documenting findings, and reporting non-conformities.
- Relevant qualifications such as a vocational certificate, HNC/HND, or degree in construction materials, civil engineering, or a related field are beneficial.
- Previous experience in a construction materials testing laboratory or on-site testing environment is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and the ability to follow technical procedures and safety protocols are required.
- Good communication skills, basic IT proficiency, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are desirable.
- A valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to project sites within the region are beneficial.
