Compass Associates are proud to be partnering with a specialist provider of residential care and education services for young people in the search for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join their specialist clinical services.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist with strong CAMHS / child and adolescent mental health experience to join an established organisation supporting young people with complex and enduring mental health needs.
The position is offered on a part-time basis, with an expected commitment of 2–3 days per week, although there is flexibility for candidates interested in additional days, subject to review.
The successful candidate will provide specialist psychiatric input across a small number of residential services in the East Anglia region (Newmarket and Wisbech), supporting young people within the residential cohort. The services are currently operating with relatively low occupancy, with placements building gradually, meaning the overall psychiatric workload is expected to remain manageable.
The role will provide an opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary environment, delivering psychiatric assessment, diagnostic input, medication reviews, prescribing, and ongoing clinical oversight, whilst supporting residential teams when young people experience deterioration or periods of psychiatric crisis.
Working Pattern & Location:
This is a part-time, predominantly site-based position, with clinical time divided between the residential services according to current clinical demand.

About The Role:
As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide specialist psychiatric oversight to young people living within a number of residential services, working closely with residential, clinical, education, and external healthcare teams.
You will undertake psychiatric assessments, diagnostic reviews, and medication reviews, prescribing where clinically appropriate, and providing ongoing clinical oversight of young people's mental health and psychiatric medication.
The role will also involve working closely with GPs and external mental health services, ensuring appropriate communication and continuity of care. Where medication is initiated by the psychiatrist, you will provide clinical recommendations and liaise with the young person's GP regarding ongoing prescribing.
Given the complexity of the young people supported, you will also provide psychiatric input when individuals experience deterioration, increased risk, or periods of crisis. You will need to be confident in applying your knowledge of the Mental Health Act, including understanding the circumstances in which hospital assessment or admission may be required.
This is a highly collaborative role suited to a Consultant Psychiatrist who enjoys working within a specialist residential environment and is comfortable providing autonomous clinical decision-making whilst working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.

Essential:
- Consultant Psychiatrist with GMC registration and Specialist Register status
- Strong experience working with young people / CAMHS with complex mental health needs
- Section 12(2) approval / Approved Clinician Status
- Strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
- Experience managing complex mental health presentations and psychiatric risk
- Ability to work collaboratively with residential, clinical, and multidisciplinary teams
Desirable:
- Child and Adolescent Psychiatry GMC Specialist Register status
- Experience within residential care, specialist education, or other complex care environments
- Experience working collaboratively with education and residential teams
- Experience supporting young people during periods of deterioration or psychiatric crisis
Salary & Benefits:
- Up to £170,000 per annum FTE, depending on experience
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays, pro rata for part-time employees
- Additional annual leave entitlement after 2–3 years, building up to an additional 5 days
