An established environmental consultancy is seeking a Consultant Ecologist to join its growing ecology team supporting a major infrastructure framework across the Midlands. The business delivers a wide range of ecological services to public and private sector clients and offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced ecologists on complex, high-profile projects.
Your new role
As a Consultant Ecologist, you'll play a key role in delivering ecological surveys, project work and technical reporting across a variety of infrastructure projects. Working within a collaborative ecology team, you will manage your own workload while contributing to project delivery from initial survey through to reporting and client liaison.
Key duties will include:
- Undertaking Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs)
- Carrying out protected species and habitat surveys
- Producing and reviewing technical reports
- Managing ecological projects and deliverables
- Supporting infrastructure and development projects
- Conducting habitat assessments and botanical surveys
- Liaising with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders
- Providing ecological advice and guidance throughout project life cycles
- Managing Junior and Graduate Ecologists

This role will involve a combination of site work and office-based technical delivery, with approximately three days focused on reporting, project management and desk-based tasks.
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience within an ecological consultancy
- Strong all-round ecological survey and reporting skills
- Experience managing projects and client relationships
- Knowledge of UK protected species and habitats
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to review, challenge and improve technical outputs
- A full UK driving licence
Candidates with protected species licences and botanical survey experience will be viewed favourably, although these are not essential.
