Growing Native Ltd is looking for a motivated Ecologist to join our growing team.
We're an independent ecological consultancy delivering practical ecological support on infrastructure, utilities and development projects across the East and South East of England.
We're a growing, friendly business built on practical ecology, informed professional judgement and strong technical standards. The Role
This is a full-time, permanent, home-based role involving regular site work across Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire, with occasional travel to projects across Essex, London and the wider Home Counties.
This is a predominantly site-based role, so it's ideal for someone who enjoys being outdoors, working closely with construction teams and solving practical ecological challenges, rather than spending most of their time behind a desk.
You'll typically travel directly from home to site, undertaking:
- Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) duties.
- Pre-works ecological checks, ecological walkovers and ecological monitoring.
- Delivering ecological toolbox talks to contractors and site teams.
- Supervising archaeological trenching, vegetation clearance and other enabling works.
- Monitoring ecological mitigation measures during construction.
- Providing practical ecological advice to contractors and project teams.
- Producing clear and concise site records.
- Liaising professionally with clients, contractors, archaeologists, engineers and other members of the project team.

We're looking for someone who is self-motivated, enjoys practical, site-based ecology and can confidently work independently on routine tasks while recognising when to seek support from senior colleagues.
About You
You'll typically have:
- Around 1-4 years' experience within a UK ecological consultancy.
- Experience of ECoW duties, pre-works ecological checks or ecological site supervision.
- A good understanding of UK protected species legislation.
- Confidence delivering toolbox talks and communicating effectively with contractors and site teams.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
- A willingness to travel regularly to sites across Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire, with occasional travel to projects across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, London and the wider Home Counties as required.
The following would also be advantageous:
- Graduate or Associate membership of CIEEM.
- Experience working on infrastructure, utilities or construction projects.
- One or more protected species survey licences, or evidence of working towards them.
- Experience using QGIS or similar GIS software.

Additional Information
As this role involves working on major infrastructure and construction projects, the successful candidate will be required to comply with client health and safety procedures, including pre-placement and random drug and alcohol testing, where required by our clients.
