Consultant in Cellular Pathology

We have a vacancy for a Consultant post in Cellular Pathology, based at Royal Preston Hospital. This is a part-time, permanent post.

Working Hours

  • Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm
  • No expectation of providing on-call for this post.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will join our team of consultants and will be required to provide a comprehensive histopathology service. You would not be required to report neuropathology cases.

  • Develop specialist interests to complement the existing specialist Cancer services.
  • Co-operate with other members of the Pathology Directorate to ensure effective administrative arrangements in the laboratory, including:
    • Recruitment and appointment of junior medical staff, Biomedical Scientists, and secretarial staff.
    • Arrangement of staff rosters, allocation of duties, and instruction in necessary organizational matters.
    • Coordination with staff in other professional disciplines and healthcare workers outside the hospital.
    • Attendance at Board meetings and other committees when pathology issues are being discussed and participation in resource management.
    • Continuing management responsibility by agreement with other consultants in the Cellular Pathology Department, specifically for the service in his/her charge and for administrative duties associated with these services and the proper functioning of the department. Certain responsibilities may be delegated to senior staff within the department.

Collaboration and Facilities

We are in collaboration discussions with the other 3 trusts in Lancashire and Cumbria, including Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, and Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust. A central laboratory Hub has been proposed.

Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites, offering excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students, as well as high-tech simulation facilities.
