Job Summary
We are advertising a permanent, full-time 10 PA Consultant post in General Paediatrics with a special interest in Cardiology at University Hospitals Birmingham.
The post is primarily based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, with the expectation that clinical duties be delivered across Good Hope and Solihull sites within the Trust.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
The successful applicant will join an experienced consultant team delivering the paediatric cardiology service and will be supported in their professional development, including opportunities to participate in joint cardiology clinics with Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Out-of-hours on-call duties will be based at Heartlands Hospital, covering inpatient admissions, the six-bedded Paediatric High Dependency Unit (HDU), Paediatric Assessment Unit and referrals from the Emergency Department. The postholder will be involved in stabilising acutely unwell children requiring intensive care transfer.
We provide clinical support and access to HDU and inpatient care for sick and complex children and those requiring long stay admission from the Children's Assessment Unit at Good Hope Hospital (CAU GHH). There is integration and co-operation between consultant and nursing teams across sites with frequent transfer of patients to Heartlands from Good Hope Site. Consultants work a 'Consultant of the Week' model, covering HDU and the inpatient ward as first on-call, or the Paediatric Assessment Unit, ambulatory and short-stay admissions as second on-call. Weekday daytime cover is 08:30-17:00.

The team also provides shared care with surgical specialties, mental health services and community partners, supporting children with complex and life-limiting conditions within a multidisciplinary team. Two weeks per year will be spent on the CAU BHH, Monday-Friday, as the weekday on-call consultant.

Job Description
Supporting responsibilities
- Attend statutory, mandatory and essential training activities
- Complete appraisal and revalidation commitments
- Maintain CPD in general paediatrics including asthma and respiratory
- Participation in teaching, training and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate doctors rotating in paediatrics.
- Participation in clinical governance activities including audits, and other supporting activities as directed by the needs of the service.
- Respond and engage with complaints or investigations within the trust when requested
- Attend and keeping up to date with child safeguarding training as per trust requirements
- Maintain life support provider status (EPALS or APLS) as minimum

Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCPCH or equivalent
