Exciting Opportunity in Children’s Services

This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed and supportive Children’s Services team within the Women’s and Children’s Division. Our paediatric services provide care for children, young people and families across mid-Nottinghamshire, working with acute, neonatal, community and system partners to deliver safe, responsive and compassionate care.

About the Role

We are seeking a consultant who shares our values and will bring clinical expertise, leadership and a commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people. The successful candidate will support high-quality general paediatric care, contribute to service development, strengthen patient flow and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

The role also supports development of our paediatric respiratory pathway and we welcome applications from candidates with a specialist interest or experience in paediatric respiratory medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a comprehensive general paediatric service across inpatient, ambulatory, outpatient and emergency care settings.
  • Participate in the consultant on-call rota, including out-of-hours, weekend and acute paediatric/neonatal hot week cover.
  • Support the development of paediatric respiratory services, including outpatient activity, pathway development and quality improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with paediatric, neonatal, emergency department, community and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality care.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supporting patient flow, escalation, discharge planning and service improvement.
  • Contribute to governance activities including audit, incident review, complaints management, risk management and quality improvement.
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff and promote safe clinical practice.
  • Participate in teaching, training, supervision and educational activities for undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
  • Maintain appraisal, revalidation, continuing professional development and job planning requirements.
  • Comply with Trust policies and GMC Good Medical Practice standards.
  • Promote safeguarding, infection prevention, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role, including responsibilities linked to a specialist interest in paediatric respiratory care.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
