NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The Role

The shift pattern for this post is as per job plan. Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Applications are invited for a Consultant post based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). Applications from candidates with an interest in General Surgery specialities would be welcome.

The new appointee will join a team of Consultants dedicated to providing all aspects of Surgery in general. The appointee will have a role in providing elective General Surgical Services and managing Acute Surgical Emergencies, in addition to supporting the further development of the Service.

Responsibilities

In addition to providing clinical services the successful candidate will be required to:

  • Participate in the training and assessment of junior staff
  • Undertake the administrative duties required in a consultant job
  • Participate in the on call rota on a rotational basis

Teaching of Undergraduate medical students, trainee surgeons and visiting surgeons from overseas is considered an integral part of the work of the Directorate. It is anticipated that the appointee would contribute to the education of Surgeons in training.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Application Guidance

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
