About the Role

This is a full-time post for a Consultant in Haematology (10.0 PA). The appointee will work in collaboration with the wider Haematology team comprising of:

  • two full time consultants
  • three speciality doctors
  • a junior clinical fellow
  • a rotational trainee
  • five clinical nurse specialists
  • dedicated administrative support

This post will be an excellent opportunity for an individual to contribute to the continued development of our Haematology service and lead for either the transfusion or thrombosis service.

  • There are three outpatient clinics a week; two of which are general haematology with the potential for the third clinic being developed as specialist interest clinic.
  • One PA will be allocated for administration time as part of this 10 PA contract.
  • Attend the weekly haematology MDT and network meetings.

Laboratory Responsibilities

  • Contribute to providing timely reporting and authorisation of abnormal blood films referred by the laboratory and bone marrows. This workload is shared between members of the consultant team.
  • Deliver an interpretative and advisory service for haematology based on laboratory results, which is available to the whole health community.
  • Attend the monthly laboratory network meetings (minimum one consultant from each site required if clinical lead is not available).
  • Out of hours laboratory cover for all 3 sites (UHCW, GEH and SWFT) will be provided by the on-call consultant haematologist according to the network on call rota.
