Job Opportunity: Respiratory Medicine Consultant

We are pleased to advertise two full-time (10 PA) substantive Respiratory Medicine consultant posts with unselected general medicine on-call (excluding acute cardiology and stroke) at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, based across Wycombe Hospital and Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Part-time working will be considered.

About the Role

The successful applicants will join a team of eight enthusiastic, forward-thinking Respiratory Consultants. We are seeking colleagues with strong teamwork skills and a passion for lung and pleural cancer diagnostics, including bronchoscopy, pleural procedures, MDT input, and outpatient care, including our new lung screening service.

Post 1 following a colleague’s retirement, supports the lung cancer service. We welcome applicants with skills such as radial EBUS, pleural biopsy, IPC placement, and thoracoscopy; training can be supported by current consultants and Interventional Radiology.

Post 2 supports our Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) service, which works closely with Oxford University Hospitals in a hub & spoke model. We aim to repatriate more ILD care locally and expand community-based management.

Candidates with specialist interests are welcome to discuss how their skills may fit within the department. Leadership development/involvement in teaching medical students and junior doctors are encouraged.

For further information or to arrange a visit, please contact Dr. Abi Jackson (abigailjackson@nhs.net) or Anjani Prasad (Anjani.prasad@nhs.net), Dr. Anjani Prasad, Lung Cancer Lead.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Achievements

The Respiratory team won the Trust award of Acute Healthcare team of the Year; and the Consultant Lead won the Trust Leadership award in 2021.

Team and Environment

We are looking to expand to provide training for our formal Respiratory Specialist Unit for NIV, which is in place now; to aid our admission avoidance service; and to support respiratory outpatients. All applicants within 6 months of CCT at interview date are welcome and all other subspecialist interests would be considered, and mentored. Less than full-time working will be considered and welcomed.

The Respiratory Team has approximately 45 inpatients. 2 consultants run the 2 wards on rotation. 3 registrars and 2 IMT from the HETV/Oxford rotation and 9 juniors support the wards. We provide COPD and COVID early supported discharge.

We have weekend daytime on-call for the respiratory wards giving 7/7 Respiratory cover; and take part in the acute general medicine on call during the week. There has been a large investment in Acute Medicine with a reconfiguration of the urgent care pathway, and appointment of new Acute Physicians. Sub-specialty outpatient clinics exist for lung cancer, pleural, cough/airways and TB. We work very much as a team of consultants with MDT meetings, and have a commitment to teaching all grades of doctors.
