Job Description

The appointee will join an enthusiastic and friendly team of Respiratory Medicine, which is an integral part of the Division of Emergency Care and Medicine at the QEH.

Respiratory Inpatients are looked after in Necton ward, which has one dedicated bay for NIV patients, 4 general bays, 3 side rooms, and a procedure room. In total, we look after 32 patients. Two respiratory teams at any one time divide patients between them, and our 3rd consultant is in charge of General medical and other specialty ward referrals, while our 4th consultant does the in-reach for the Acute medical area.

Outpatient work and Lung cancer referrals are divided among all four consultants. Weekly there are 2 bronchoscopy/EBUS lists and one pleural clinic run by the existing team. Research and tertiary referrals are undertaken in collaboration with CUH and Papworth. The unit actively participates in the local and national audits. The post-holder will follow their standard job plan.

Responsibilities

  • To take consultant responsibility for allocated inpatients, with support from a designated team of junior doctors based on the respiratory ward.
  • To provide Consultant-led in-reach service to ward and acute medicine referrals.
  • To conduct general respiratory outpatient clinics and Lung cancer clinics.
  • To maintain effective communication and handover to the on-call team.
  • To work within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and managers to further develop local respiratory services.
  • To take part in the weekend General Medical on-call rota with colleagues, currently 1 in 18, as first on-call from 8:30 till 20:30, and a second on-call covers the wards from 9:00 till 14:30 on weekends. 1:18 weekday night on-calls.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
