St Joseph's Hospice
St Joseph's Hospice - providing compassionate, specialist palliative care to people in the diverse community of East London living with life-limiting illness – are looking for a Consultant in Specialist Palliative Medicine to provide expert specialist palliative care to patients and families across inpatient, outpatient and community settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing specialist medical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with complex palliative and end of life care needs.
- Delivering care across hospice inpatient, outpatient and community services.
- Providing expert advice to multidisciplinary colleagues through ward rounds, community visits, multi-disciplinary meetings, case load reviews, virtual consultations.
- Contributing to the delivery of high-quality, safe and effective patient care.
- Providing clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
- Supporting implementation of hospice clinical strategies and objectives.
- Participating in complaint and incident investigations and organisational learning.
- Promoting patient safety and continuous improvement.
- Supporting undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
- Contributing to the teaching of doctors, nurses and other allied healthcare professionals.
- Working collaboratively with healthcare professionals across organisational boundaries.

Skills and Experience
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Palliative Medicine, or eligibility for entry within six months of interview.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent Royal College qualification.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and participation in appraisal and revalidation.
- Experience of specialist palliative and end of life care at Consultant level or senior training level.
- Experience of teaching and supporting healthcare professionals, along with a commitment to education and learning.
- Expert knowledge of palliative medicine.
- Excellent clinical decision-making ability.
- Strong communication skills, including complex conversations with patients and families.
- Ability to provide clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance and patient safety.
- Professional integrity and credibility, with compassion and empathy for patients and families.

Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 per annum, depending on experience + 2% on-call supplement.
Contract and Hours: Permanent, full-time, 40 hours per week plus on-call work (working pattern - 10 programmed activities + on-call rota).
Location: St Joseph's Hospice, Mare Street, London, E8 4SA.
