Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

• The postholder will have close working relationships with the whole Radiology team including Consultants, Radiographic and associated support staff whilst also developing extensive collaborative links with colleagues within all associated specialties.
• Teaching and Training are an integral part with rotating radiology trainees and subspecialty training.
• A formal job plan will be reviewed between the Post Holder and Specialty Lead within three months after commencement in post. The exact timetable will be flexible, arranged in discussion with the Specialty Lead.
• The job plan will be reviewed prospectively and at least annually. This will be a positive agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year.

Qualifications And Registration

• Essential criteria
  • Full and specialist registration in either AIM or GIM with the General Medical Council (GMC) or Within 6 months of obtaining expected CCT date at time of interview. CESR applicants are welcome but must have CESR in place at the time of interview.
  • Locum candidates will be considered without CCT or CESR
• Desirable criteria
  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS).

Other

• Essential criteria
  • Meets professional health requirements
  • Agreement to travel to and work in other Bristol NHS Group sites necessitated by the role

Experience

• Essential criteria
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the relevant specialty
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
• Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy

Clinical Knowledge and Skills

• Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
• Desirable criteria
  • Broad range of IT skills

Clinical Governance and Audit

• Essential criteria
  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
  • Positive approach to evidence based practice
  • Evidence of recent and regular engagement with icontinuing professional development (CPD) scheme

Research

• Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the principles involved in research
  • Evidence of involvement in research

  • Additional academic experience and qualifications e.g. PhD

Teaching and Training

  • Experience of teaching medical students and AHP’s
  • Experience of supervising trainees

  • Evidence of management training and evidence of learning from it
