Role Description
This is a remote role for a Consultant Mental Health Solicitor. The role involves advising and representing clients in mental health law matters, including tribunal hearings, hospital and community treatment issues, and related public law concerns. The solicitor will manage their own caseload, draft legal documents and advice letters, prepare and review evidence, and liaise with clients, medical professionals, local authorities, and other stakeholders.

- Undertaking legal research
- Ensuring compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements
- Maintaining accurate file records
- Contributing to best practice in Mental Health Law work
The role also includes supporting business development activities, such as cultivating referral relationships and promoting the firm’s services within the sector.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor with experience in Mental Health Law, including representation before tribunals and familiarity with relevant legislation and case law.
- Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and accessible written advice.
- Excellent client-care and communication skills, including the ability to work compassionately with vulnerable clients and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary professionals.
- Experience working under Legal Aid Agency contracts, including file management, compliance, and time recording, is highly beneficial.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage a varied caseload, and meet deadlines with good organisational and self-management skills.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and non-discriminatory practice, with a professional, ethical approach to all aspects of work.
- Strong IT literacy, including use of case management systems, secure communications, and remote-working tools.
- Previous experience in a boutique or specialist firm and interest in contributing to business development and firm growth is an advantage.
