Role Description
The Consultant Mental Health Solicitor will provide specialist advice and representation in Mental Health Law matters, including hospital and community-based cases, tribunal work, and related Court of Protection issues.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Managing a caseload
- Conducting client interviews (often with vulnerable clients)
- Preparing legal documents
- Drafting submissions
- Attending hearings remotely or in person where required
The role involves liaising with healthcare professionals, local authorities, advocates, and other stakeholders to progress cases effectively and uphold clients’ legal rights. The solicitor will ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements, maintain accurate file records, and contribute to best practice within the firm.
This is a full-time remote role, with flexibility to arrange client meetings, hearings, and team collaboration using digital tools.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with experience in Mental Health Law and, ideally, the Court of Protection.
- Proven ability to manage a legal caseload independently, including advising, drafting, and advocacy in tribunal or court settings.
- Strong client care skills, particularly in working with vulnerable clients, and a commitment to clear, empathetic communication.
- Experience with Legal Aid Agency requirements, billing, and compliance processes.
- Excellent legal research, written communication, and document drafting skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment, using digital case management and video conferencing tools.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and professional integrity.
- Experience in private client work (Wills, LPAs, property advice) is an advantage but not essential.
