Job Opportunity: Full Time New Consultant Nephrologist
We are delighted to invite applications for 1 full time New Consultant colleague to join our team. LTH is the specialised commissioned service for Lancashire & South Cumbria to provide Renal service, which includes the Fylde coast, Morecambe bay and East Lancashire.
About the Role
The role is a new position to help meet our rising demand for General Nephrology and the emerging need for Onco-nephrology care across L&SC. This is a substantive full-time Consultant Nephrologist post.
- They will also conduct their DCC at RPH and in our regional renal centres.
- Through advance agreement with the Clinical Director, there may be opportunities to negotiate a change in job plan to include on-calls, procedures, and/or clinic activities at Royal Preston Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- The appointee will join 19 (17 WTE) Renal Consultants and an Associate Specialist to improve upon the high quality care offered to patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
- In addition to the specific roles outlined, the successful candidates would be expected to meet all standard duties of a substantive Consultant with particular reference to contributing to the work of the renal department and commitment to undertaking continuing professional development.
- We expect all of our team to contribute to the education of departmental staff and students in training.
- We encourage the development of individual and collaborative research activity.

Specific Duties
- General Nephrology and a new onco-nephrology (face-to-face and virtual) will be based at RPH and peripheral renal centres.
- In-patient bedside reviews may be required for peripheral centre inpatients and reviewing referrals on Patient Pass.
- There is time allocated in the job plan to reflect this commitment.
- The successful candidate will join a highly motivated team and will develop an Onco-Nephrology service to meet the rising demands of acute kidney injury during the course of cancer treatment.
- This clinic will provide a clear pathway for referral for the region and reduce treatment interruptions for patients.
- The clinics will be located at Royal Preston Hospital and another regional centre pending demand modelling.
- The successful candidate will also provide General Nephrology clinics likely to the north of the service.

- You would join an excellent, friendly and compassionate large Renal service that covers 1.6 million people, looking after over 1400 dialysis and transplant patients across a large geographical area including 4 trusts and 6 satellite renal centres in addition to our main hub unit at Royal Preston Hospital.
- Our new renal satellite centres offer renal outpatient clinic facilities, on-site phlebotomy in addition to regular dialysis stations and self-care areas.
- We have an award winning successful live and deceased donor transplant programme and a well-established home dialysis team, offering Peritoneal Dialysis and Home Haemodialysis training at our facility in Chorley Hospital and now Kendal.
- We have an expanding research portfolio recruiting to national and international trials and undertaking original research within the NIHR badged on-site Lancashire Clinical Research Facility.
- We offer sub-specialty expertise particularly in vasculitis, advanced kidney care, glomerulonephritis, enhanced supportive care and home therapy.
