Job Overview
Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (South West Neuromuscular Network)
An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a two new Consultant Neurology posts, with interest and expertise in Neuromuscular Disorders, to work in the South West, based in Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (or a different place in the region if preferred as a base). These posts are part of the South West Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network, a nationally recognised network of excellence, which provides care for people living with Neuromuscular conditions in Bristol, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is a leading centre for patient care in the South West and one of the largest hospital trusts in the UK.
Main duties of the job
These posts will involve the diagnosis, management and care of people living with Neuromuscular Disorders, their families, and carers. This includes a range of conditions, for example muscular dystrophies, neuropathies, CIDP and myasthenia. A range of treatment options, including genetic modifying therapies, are established. The service is multi-disciplinary, supported by Neuromuscular Care Advisors, Specialist Physiotherapists, and a Specialist Psychologist. The post holder's will join the team in providing an education programme for professionals and patients.
These posts will both provide outpatient clinics in Bristol and Plymouth. One of the posts will provide clinics in Truro (12 clinics or 6 days per year) and one post will provide clinics in North Devon (12 clinics or 6 days per year).

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The South West Neuromuscular Network is the only Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network (ODN) in the UK and one of a growing number of ODNs in the South West. The network is funded by NHS England to provide regional services throughout the South West. This post provides a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and highly motivated, dedicated team, working within a holistic framework of a network model of care.
The role of Consultant Neurologist with interest and expertise in Neuromuscular Disorders with contribute to the existing services in Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and will lead these services across the South West Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network. Clinics will be based in Devon, Cornwall and Bristol.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full and specialist registration in either AIM or GIM with the General Medical Council (GMC) or
- Within 6 months of obtaining expected CCT date at time of interview CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview
Desirable criteria
- Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Neuromuscular conditions.
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty

- Broad range of IT skills
Communication Skills
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English.
- Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
- Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multiprofessional basis with all levels of staff both within and across divisions
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues.

- Experience of teaching medical students and AHP’s

- Knowledge of the principles involved in research
- Evidence of involvement in research

- Additional academic experience and qualifications e.g. PhD

- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
