We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Consultant or Senior Consultant Transport Modeller to join our growing Transport Planning team in Bristol, Exeter or Taunton.
About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded team with a strong reputation for delivering transport modelling solutions across the South West and wider UK. The role will have a particular focus on strategic transport modelling using PTV VISUM and microsimulation modelling, supporting a broad range of public and private sector projects.
You will work closely with transport planners, engineers and multidisciplinary teams to develop robust evidence that informs infrastructure investment, development planning and transport strategy.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Developing, calibrating, validating and applying strategic transport models, with a strong emphasis on PTV VISUM.
- Building and delivering microsimulation models using software such as VISSIM, Aimsun and Paramics.
- Undertaking transport forecasting, scenario testing and option appraisal to support transport and development projects.
- Analysing and interpreting model outputs to provide clear, evidence-based recommendations for clients.
- Preparing high-quality technical reports, presentations and client deliverables.
- Supporting the development of business cases, transport strategies and infrastructure investment studies.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members where appropriate.
- Contributing to project management activities, including programme delivery, fee proposals and client engagement.
- Keeping up to date with industry guidance, modelling best practice and emerging digital technologies.

About You
We're looking for a highly analytical transport modeller with a passion for solving complex transport challenges and delivering high-quality technical work.
You Will Ideally Have
- A degree or higher-level qualification in Transport Planning, Mathematics, Engineering, Geography, Statistics or a related discipline.
- Experience in transport modelling, particularly the development and application of PTV VISUM models.
- Strong knowledge of strategic transport modelling principles, including model calibration, validation and forecasting.
- Experience in microsimulation modelling using VISSIM, Aimsun and/or Paramics.
- Experience delivering modelling studies for local authorities, developers, National Highways or other public and private sector clients.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and numerical skills.
- Excellent report-writing and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly.
- Experience using Excel and GIS, with knowledge of Python, Power BI or data analytics tools considered advantageous.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience supporting junior colleagues and contributing to project delivery.
- Membership of, or progress towards, a relevant professional institution such as CIHT or CILT.
