Consultant Paediatrician

NHS Lanarkshire

Job Overview

This General Paediatric substantive post is available from 1st November 2026 for 8 PAs per week. We see this as an exciting opportunity to modernise existing services and to continue to develop as a centre of excellence in secondary paediatric care. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team who would relish the opportunities and challenges of delivering high quality care across Lanarkshire acute paediatrics and in particular working with the endocrine team.

They will be the main link person with tertiary services for endocrinology, and will also work within the diabetic team as it continues to deliver excellent paediatric care both inpatient, outpatient and hospital at home for diabetic patients. The successful candidate will be part of the modernization of the paediatric services and will be involved in innovation to deliver care for the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in Acute Paediatric services with current acute consultants
  • Be part of the acute on-call rota
  • Deliver endocrine and diabetic clinics
  • Allocate a session for own appraisal and appropriate admin time/service development
  • Have their own general paediatric clinic weekly

Inpatient Service

  • Based at Wishaw General Hospital, a 40-bedded unit with approximately 8000 admissions per year
  • Commitment to weekly Consultant in-patient attending rota
  • Out of hours on-call required within acute services
  • Separate Child Protection team from the acute consultants

Team

The successful applicant will join the existing team of 20 consultants, 17 General Paediatricians, 4 Community Paediatricians, and 2 Community/General Paediatricians.

Additional SPA Time
