This is a full time 10PA position where you will join a newly established North East Oxfordshire AMHT (Based in Bicester) serving adults of working age in the town of Bicester and surrounding areas of Kidlington, Islip, Woodstock and Yarnton. This substantive consultant post has become available following a reorganisation of service and offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of the team.
You'll provide senior clinical leadership, shape local pathways and contribute to service development across the interface between secondary care, primary care and community partners.
This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact to mental health care and patient recovery outcomes. We're looking for applicants who have full GMC registration and are on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT. You'll need to be eligible for Section 12 Approval/Approved Clinician status or willing to apply for this once in post.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the team.

- Undertake MHA assessments and undertake RC responsibility for patients as required.
- Responsibility for those patients seen by yourself, together with those patients seen by medical staff directly supervised by you.
- Work alongside the whole AMHT team managers, service manager and the other consultant psychiatrists in the service to ensure the effective functioning and development of the service.
- Provide direct clinical supervision and line management to the trainees and speciality doctor and any senior trainee placed with the team.
- Provide direct clinical care and ensure medical involvement in the CPA process and weekly multidisciplinary ward rounds. Family meetings, professionals’ meetings, further ad hoc patient reviews and seclusion reviews are expected as part of this role. The consultant will be expected to adhere to good clinical practice based on research evidence.
- Contribute to referral management with the team manager and leadership team. The post holder will jointly review care plans with care coordinators and attend daily FACT meetings.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
