Are you an experienced Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist looking for an opportunity to make a real and lasting impact?
Priory Hospital Chelmsford is launching a brand-new CAMHS inpatient service for young people aged 13–18, and we are looking for an experienced Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist to help us establish, lead and shape this exciting new service.
This is a rare opportunity to join Priory at the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our CAMHS provision. As only the second private CAMHS service within Priory, you will have the opportunity to play a significant role in developing the service from the ground up, with genuine influence over its clinical pathways, culture and future direction.

A well-resourced clinical environment
Priory Hospital Chelmsford is a long-established private hospital set within three acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. The hospital currently provides 56 beds across its existing acute and addiction pathways, with this new CAMHS service representing an exciting expansion of our specialist provision.
You will work within a dedicated multidisciplinary team, supported by established clinical governance and senior leadership structures, with access to the resources required to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.
The service will also benefit from onsite educational provision and schooling, helping to support the wider educational and developmental needs of young people during their inpatient journey.
Supporting children and young people is a key area of growth for Priory, and the organisation has invested heavily in developing a new private inpatient provision at Roehampton and Chelmsford, supporting children and young people in medically led therapeutic stabilisation programmes, which also enables education to continue.

What you'll be doing
This is a unique opportunity to build something new, it's much more than joining an established service. You will have the opportunity to help create one.
Working closely with the Hospital Director and Medical Director, you will help set the clinical vision for the service and shape its development as part of Priory’s growing CAMHS provision.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Shape a new CAMHS service from the ground up.

Clinical leadership and autonomy.
As Consultant and Responsible Clinician, you will play a central role in providing clinical leadership and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality care.
You will have the opportunity to influence clinical practice and service delivery, working collaboratively with the MDT and wider hospital leadership to develop a service that delivers excellent outcomes for young people.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading patient care planning and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Assessing and managing complex CAMHS presentations.
- Chairing MDT and CPA meetings.
- Liaising closely with young people, families and external stakeholders.
- Providing clinical leadership alongside the Ward Manager.
- Supporting the development of effective patient pathways and models of care.
- Contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement and service development.
- Promoting high standards of clinical care, patient safety and positive outcomes.
Flexible working arrangements, including part-time applications. There may also be opportunities, where appropriate, to retain existing NHS or private practice commitments.
We are also open to discussing the possibility of working from home one day per week, subject to the needs of the service.

What you'll bring to the role
We are looking for an ambitious and compassionate Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist who is passionate about improving outcomes for young people and excited by the opportunity to help build and develop a new service.
You will be someone who:
- Has significant experience working within CAMHS inpatient and/or community settings.
- Is passionate about delivering high-quality care for young people.
- Is motivated by service development, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Has the confidence to lead, develop and inspire multidisciplinary teams.
- Values clinical autonomy and the opportunity to influence clinical decision-making.
- Has excellent communication, collaboration and leadership skills.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgement and resilience.
- Has a thorough understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
The successful candidate will hold full GMC registration with inclusion on the Specialist Register, together with CAMHS CCT or equivalent CESR and Approved Clinician status.
