General Radiologist - Paediatric Radiology

The successful applicant will be a General Radiologist with an interest in paediatric radiology. The split between general and paediatric imaging work will be flexible to address any potential candidate’s experience and career aspirations.

If a newly appointed consultant, the successful applicant will be eligible to apply for additional study leave to undertake up to three months additional subspecialty radiology training to meet specific learning objectives that are of benefit to the applicant and the Clinical Imaging Directorate at RCHT. This additional study leave must be taken within years of appointment. There may be a requirement to participate in the on-call rota during this period of additional study leave.

The successful candidate will join a team of 33 Consultants providing a wide range of general and specialist radiology services and will be expected to contribute to the second on 1:11 general radiology on-call service.

Radiology Services

The Royal Cornwall Hospital offers general paediatric imaging services including fluoroscopy, ultrasound, plain film, nuclear medicine, MRI (including a well-established GA service), CT as well as some interventional radiology and PET-CT in older teenagers. A large proportion of the subspecialist work is carried out at the main hospital site (Treliske) with additional ultrasound lists currently at Bodmin and Camborne & Redruth Hospital along with plain film at all sites.

Training and Development

RCHT is a large training centre for the Peninsula Postgraduate School of Radiology. A number of Specialty Registrars rotate through the department at any one time (20 in 2026-7).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Trust has close links to medical specialist services in the Southwest Peninsula and beyond. Serving a widespread local population, as well as thousands of visitors to Cornwall each year, poses a number of unique healthcare challenges.

The Trust provides acute medical and surgical services to a population of around 430,000, which more than doubles during the busy holiday periods, from our three hospitals: The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro, West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance, and St Michaels in Hayle. Outpatient and other services are also provided at a large number of community-based NHS locations around the county and a number of corporate support services are located away from the main hospital sites.

Department Accreditation

The Clinical Imaging department at RCHT registration with QSI was renewed in 2023. We have since transitioned to the Royal College of Radiologist accreditation scheme. The department was rated as Outstanding by the CQC in 2018.

Hospital Facilities

There are two dedicated paediatric wards, both of which are split into further sub-set units to provide in-patient general paediatrics, day case surgical cases, inpatient paediatric surgical beds, the CLIC cancer unit, along with the paediatric assessment unit.

A Level 2 20-bed neonatal unit (as well as transitional care beds) is also part of the Women and Children’s Hospital.
