Consultant Social Worker

Integrated Family Support Service (IFSS)

37 hours per week

Grade 14 - £52,413 per annum

Glyncornel Centre, Nant y Gwyddon Road, Llywnypia, CF40 2JF

We are looking for a Consultant Social Worker that wants to help make a positive difference to children’s lives, supporting placement stability for children to remain in their families and assisting in their return home where appropriate.

As a Consultant Social Worker in our Children’s Services Supporting Change Teams, you would be joining a unique multi-agency and multi-disciplinary service sharing knowledge and expertise with a range of professionals, such as specialist health workers, family therapists and psychologists.

The Consultant Social Worker role is an integral part of the management team in our service and balances their own case load with the responsibility for providing supervision and professional development of staff, supporting them to successfully work co-productively with children, their families and others to design and implement time-limited, intensive, specialist family focused evidence-based interventions.

Our Consultant Social Workers receive regular support and supervision from one of our Team Practice & Performance Managers, as well as peer support from other Consultant Social Workers in the service. We also provide and encourage participation in a range of training and continuing professional development opportunities and offer a progressive structure to aid career development.

We welcome applications from experienced qualified social workers who can meet the experience requirement for the post, including undertaking evidence-based interventions with children and families where parental drug and alcohol misuse, domestic violence, and poor parental mental health have been prevalent and who are fully motivated, enthusiastic, have a ‘can do attitude’ and a flexible approach to working hours, and most importantly have a passion for working directly with children and families.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
