NHS Lanarkshire - University Hospital Wishaw
NHS Lanarkshire is seeking to appoint a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in lower limb to join our Trauma and Orthopaedic Service based primarily at University Hospital Wishaw, with cross-site working as required. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking and evolving service delivering high-quality care across both elective and trauma pathways. The successful candidate will join our team and help provide urgent general trauma and subspecialist lower limb trauma care to the patients of Lanarkshire. They will also get the opportunity to provide and develop their interest in lower limb elective orthopaedics like primary knee and hip arthroplasty, revision knee and hip arthroplasty, and periprosthetic fracture management.
The post holder will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, supporting safe, effective patient care while contributing to service development, governance, and quality improvement initiatives aligned with ongoing orthopaedic redesign programmes.
Requirements
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC, demonstrate relevant lower limb experience alongside a commitment to clinical governance, teamwork, and service improvement.
The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time. EPA’s may be available for both part-time and full-time positions.

In addition to the 1 PA for Non-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.
