Job Overview

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant Urological Surgeon with a specialist interest in Paediatric Urology. The post will be predominantly based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, with responsibilities extending across both hospital sites.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality urology services to a wide and diverse catchment population. The post has been designed to strengthen and further develop urological care across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid-Wales.

The successful candidate will bring expertise in General Urology alongside a subspecialist interest in Paediatric Urology.

Contribution to an out-of-hours on-call rota is core to this role.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide independent consultant-level care for patients, working alongside the wider consultant body to ensure high-quality continuous management.
  • Manage patients with a full range of urological conditions, delivering both elective and emergency care autonomously. This will include providing out-patient and day case activity to support care of children and young people.
  • Contribute actively to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement activities, and support the education and supervision of junior medical staff and other staffing groups that are involved in patient care.
  • Undertake administrative responsibilities required to support safe and effective clinical practice.
  • Develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
  • Have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
  • Deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
  • Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
