Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, within the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC)/NHS Forth Valley (FV) Health Boards. The post will be based within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (Glasgow) with a commitment to the provision of vascular surgical service in Forth Valley Royal Hospital (Larbert). The tenure of the post is permanent.

In February 2019 the vascular surgical departments of NHS GGC and FV amalgamated. The catchment population for this service is approximately 1.5 million. The consultants work across all of the major acute hospital sites covering outpatient clinics, day surgical activity and offering support to the in-patient services with both direct clinical review and emergency surgical support.

All inpatient and Tier 3 vascular surgical care is delivered in the Queen Elizabeth University hospital. There are 50 acute vascular surgical beds, beds and a large critical care area (co location of surgical high dependency and intensive care). There are two purpose built Hybrid theatres with Toshiba imaging and two fully equipped Interventional Radiology theatres (there is 24/7 access to both CEPOD theatres and the Interventional Radiology service). A full range of open and endovascular arterial reconstruction surgery is currently offered, including complex EVAR and TEVAR. The new hospital has provided the opportunity to provide an enhanced multi disciplinary service for diabetic foot disease. Renal medicine and transplant surgery are also based on site and there is an opportunity to participate in the vascular access service. There is also provision for isolated limb perfusion as a quaternary referral service for malignant melanoma/sarcoma.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Application Advice

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
