Payroll and Workforce Management (PWFM) is a growth area for Deloitte, supporting clients with the digitisation and transformation of their payroll and workforce management functions. Our team includes a variety of professionals, ranging from industry experts, technologists, consultants and project managers, collaborating to deliver exceptional services to our clients.

Over the past year, our team have been involved in a wide variety of projects – examples include:

  • Payroll and workforce management current state review and future state strategy design
  • Implementation of a payroll system for a large multinational firm
  • Review and optimisation of a client’s existing technology landscape
  • Project management of an outsourced payroll roll-out for a global manufacturing client
  • Technology and transformation implementation to support a client’s global mobility programme
  • Review of payroll and technology landscape to develop current and future state process maps for the end-to-end payroll process
  • Review of end-to-end payroll processes, incorporating payroll compliance validation against statutory and policy guidelines

PWFM have built alliances with multiple providers, enabling us to create relationships and work with all of the major technology platforms supporting UK and global businesses.

We have an exciting opportunity to support with the development of our workforce management technology practice. We are currently building out a dedicated team to deliver payroll advisory, implementation and staff augmentation projects for a range of clients utilising payroll and workforce management technology.

Responsibilities include:

  • Able to drive various payroll consulting projects including end to end process reviews and recommendations, short-term staff augmentation projects to support clients with payroll resourcing needs and support with RFP and vendor selection processes
  • Takes an active role in pre-sales and bid development
  • Support payroll compliance reviews and help ensure adherence to UK and international regulatory requirements
  • Assist project managers and change managers in the delivery of payroll transformation projects, including stakeholder engagement and adoption activities
  • Ensures that all standards and processes are adhered to for any deliverables produced
  • Develops strong relationships with our clients
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, both internally and with client stakeholders
  • Drives the agenda for quality of work and ensures that all standards and processes are adhered to for any deliverables produced
  • Supports our team presentations at client seminars and works with others on the production of marketing materials
  • Contribute to the development of thought leadership and best practice materials
  • Take an active role in financials, contracting and take on processes for client projects

We are looking for a strong team player to join our exciting Payroll and Workforce Management (PWFM) practice. We are a close team with great relationships, regularly collaborating across our workstreams and offices.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience and understanding of operational payroll delivery within an organisation or by using a payroll vendor to process. Experience of the full annual payroll cycle
  • In-depth knowledge of UK regulatory payroll requirements including, but not limited to;
    PAYE, National Insurance Contributions, Student/Post-Graduate Loans, Statutory payments, Pension Auto-enrolment, Apprenticeship Levy, IR35, Gross to Net Calculations, Benefit-in-Kinds, taxability of varying payrolled payments and GDPR regulations
  • Understanding of best practices for maintaining data and system security
  • Knowledge of varying payroll control standards and how they should be created, tested, maintained and reviewed to comply with client’s audit requirements
  • Proficiency in using functions such as VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, SUMIF, COUNTIF, pivot tables, and conditional formatting for data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail skills
  • For the preparation of high-quality client presentations and deliverables using Microsoft PowerPoint and other tools
  • For manipulation and transformation of large data sets
  • Analytical skills used to derive insight from complex and varied information sources and the ability to input into the creation of sound recommendations
  • Knowledge and understanding of general payroll business processes and functions dependant on the accuracy of payroll data
  • Awareness and understanding of other solutions including but not limited to SAP, Oracle, Workday and / or Dayforce
  • Effective prioritisation management and organisational skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong team-player able to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and build effective relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentations, meeting minutes, workshop participation, business and report writing - capable of playing an active role in pre-sales and bid development

  • Experience and knowledge of payroll vendors, including, but not limited to SAP, Oracle and/or Workday, is desirable
