We are seeking a Senior Consultant / Consultant to join Deloitte UK’s market-leading Trade Compliance team in London, with agile and remote working supported. As part of the largest Big 4 Trade Compliance practice in Europe, you will support the delivery of export controls, sanctions, governance, and assurance engagements across diverse industries, build effective client relationships, and help organisations strengthen their risk and compliance capabilities through advisory, process, capability, and technology improvements.
Working as a valued member of the client delivery team, you will apply and further develop your trade compliance knowledge and commercial awareness to support high-quality client outcomes, contribute to the development of our services, and help deliver the team’s growth priorities. This role suits candidates with relevant experience, ideally gained in professional services, an industry trade compliance role, or a legal, regulatory, risk, or compliance environment. Your responsibilities will include:
Advisory and Solution Development:
- Identify and analyse client challenges and contribute to practical solutions through advisory support, process improvements, capability development, and technology.
- Support business growth by monitoring market developments, contributing to the development of trade compliance services, and assisting with client propositions and proposals.
- Support export classification, licensing, sanctions, and controls analysis, including risk assessments, audits, and benchmarking against leading practice, with guidance from more experienced colleagues.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of controls, procedures, and tools that strengthen clients’ trade compliance capabilities.

Project Delivery:
- Support the delivery of Trade Compliance advisory engagements as part of a project team, working under the direction of more experienced colleagues.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks or defined workstreams, managing day-to-day priorities, communicating progress, and escalating risks or issues appropriately.
- Apply developing technical knowledge and sound judgement, seeking guidance where needed, to support the timely and effective completion of engagements.
- Contribute to high-quality delivery and client satisfaction, ensuring assigned work aligns with agreed objectives, scope, and the firm’s commercial goals.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
- Support effective stakeholder engagement, both internally and externally, by preparing materials, contributing to client discussions, and following up on agreed actions.
- Build trusted working relationships with clients and colleagues across diverse industries, contributing ideas and identifying opportunities to create additional value.
- Develop a clear and professional communication style, tailoring messages for audiences at different levels of seniority, and contributing confidently to meetings, presentations, and written deliverables.
Team Contribution & Development:
- Contribute positively to project teams, working collaboratively and inclusively with colleagues across different levels, disciplines, and backgrounds.
- Actively seek feedback, coaching, and learning opportunities to develop trade compliance, consulting, and project delivery skills.

The ideal candidate will be adaptable, curious, and able to develop their understanding of trade compliance risks and issues across diverse industries, with an interest in how these issues affect different types of businesses.
You will be comfortable learning quickly as industry standards emerge or client priorities shift. You will bring a pragmatic approach to trade compliance, supported by an understanding of risk, governance, and compliance frameworks, and a willingness to build the skills needed to help clients meet challenges and manage risks effectively.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Trade Compliance Expertise and Client Advisory
- Foundational knowledge and practical exposure to export controls and sanctions regulations, ideally including UK, US, and EU jurisdictions. Ability to research, interpret, and apply regulatory requirements to business activities, with guidance from more experienced colleagues where appropriate.
- Experience supporting the delivery of advice relating to export controls, sanctions, governance, and compliance risks, helping translate technical requirements into practical recommendations, controls, processes, and technology-enabled solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess information, identify key issues, and contribute to effective solutions in complex or evolving environments.

- Experience supporting project delivery, managing assigned tasks or workstreams, and contributing to high-quality client outcomes within agreed timelines and scope.
- Developing commercial awareness, with an interest in understanding client needs, identifying opportunities to create value, and contributing to broader engagement objectives.
- Awareness of core engagement management processes, including client onboarding, contracting, and project administration activities.
