About RSM
As one of the world's largest networks of audit, tax, and consulting firms, RSM delivers big ideas and premium service to help middle-market businesses thrive. We are a fast-growing firm with big ambitions -- we have a clear goal to become the premium adviser to the middle market, globally. This vision touches everything we do, motivating and inspiring us to become better every day. If you are looking for a firm where you can build a future and make an impact, then RSM is the place for you.
You can read about working in consulting, watch videos, scroll through LinkedIn for information, or spend a year doing it, working with real clients, solving real business challenges, learning from experienced consultants, and getting involved from day one.
That's what our Placement Programme is all about. It's your chance to see what consulting is really like - not from the outside looking in, but as part of the team.
You won't spend your year sitting on the sidelines. You'll be in the middle of things building experience, confidence, and a much clearer idea of where your future could take you.
What Is Consulting
The organisations we work with are navigating new technology, changing regulation, economic uncertainty, and rising expectations. They need people who can connect ideas, understand businesses, and solve problems that rarely have straightforward answers.
That's where your career starts. From day one, you'll contribute to real client work, learning alongside experienced colleagues and gradually taking on more responsibility as your confidence grows.
Most of your learning won't happen behind a screen. It'll happen in client meetings, project discussions, and conversations with colleagues who've spent years helping organisations solve complex challenges.
YOUR STARTING POINT
You’ll join one of our two biggest solutions, Finance Function Support or Risk and Governance, to start developing a valuable range of skills that could ultimately take you anywhere in Consulting.
Every organisation needs confidence in its finances. Confidence that today’s picture is accurate, reporting meets the right standards, and the business is ready for what comes next.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You Could Be Doing
You’ll spend five days a week in the office or with clients because that's where real consulting happens, working with experienced colleagues who'll support you, challenge you, and help you build confidence as you go.
Most importantly, you'll discover what kind of work motivates you. You won't be expected to specialise too early. Instead, you'll experience different clients, sectors, and challenges, giving you the opportunity to find what genuinely interests you.
By the end of your placement, you'll leave with confidence, new skills, and a much clearer picture of where your career could take you.
Depending On Which Solution You Join, You Could Be
- Preparing statutory financial statements and supporting financial reporting and compliance activities.
- Turning financial information into meaningful insight that helps clients make confident decisions.
- Meeting people at every level of an organisation, from frontline teams to senior leadership.
- Conducting interviews, reviewing documents, analysing data, and testing how organisations manage risk.
- Taking part in the full audit and assurance lifecycle, from planning through to report writing and presenting findings.
- Delivering practical recommendations that help organisations strengthen the way they work.
What We Are Looking For
You don't need to know exactly where your career is heading. That's one of the reasons placements are great; it gives you the chance to test drive your skills. We're looking for people who are curious, ready to learn, enjoy solving problems, and like working with others.
The best way to understand consulting isn't to read about it. It's to experience it.
If you're looking for a placement where you'll contribute, keep learning, and leave with a much clearer idea of where your future could take you, we'd love to hear from you.
