Are you passionate about supporting children, young people and families? Do you believe in the power of strengths-based practice and early intervention to help families achieve positive outcomes? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and committed Family Worker to join our Single Point of Contact (SPOC) team on a 12-month secondment.
At Neath Port Talbot Children's Services, we are committed to working alongside families, recognising their strengths and supporting them through challenging times. As we continue to develop and strengthen our preventative and relationship-based approach, Family Workers play a vital role in helping us achieve the best outcomes for children and families.
About the Role
As a Family Worker within our busy and dynamic SPOC safeguarding team, you will provide high-quality support to children, young people and their families, working closely with social workers and a range of multi-agency partners. The role is varied and rewarding and may include:
- Supporting the case management and safeguarding process.
- Undertaking direct work with children, young people and families.
- Taking and responding to telephone contacts.
- Transporting children and families when required.
- Maintaining accurate and timely case recordings.
- Participating in multidisciplinary meetings and discussions.
- Supporting outcome-focused planning for children and young people.
- Liaising with partner agencies to promote positive outcomes.
- Working in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and best practice guidance.
Flexibility is essential in this role, as there may be occasions where you will be required to work outside core business hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the children, young people and families you are supporting. Flexible working time arrangements, including TOIL, will be offered if this occurs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
