About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and organised Container Control Operative to join our busy container depot operation in Felixstowe. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accurate control, tracking, and processing of containers moving through the depot while maintaining excellent communication with customers, drivers, and operational teams.

Reporting to the Transport & Container Control Manager

Working within a fast-paced logistics environment, you will be responsible for container administration, stock control, gate transactions, and supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the depot.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday:

  • Shift 1: 06:00 - 15:00
  • Shift 2: 10:00 - 19:00

Flexibility to cover operational requirements may occasionally be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control container movements within the depot management system.
  • Accurately record container arrivals, departures, inspections, and storage locations.
  • Liaise with drivers, shipping lines, transport companies, customers, and depot personnel.
  • Process gate transactions and relevant documentation.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Ensure all data is entered accurately and within required timescales.
  • Support container release and collection processes.
  • Produce operational reports as required.
  • Respond to customer enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating container movements to maximise yard efficiency.
  • Comply with company health, safety, environmental, and security procedures.
  • Work closely with depot, transport, and operations teams to ensure service levels are achieved.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong administrative and data entry skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive, proactive, and customer-focused approach.

Desirable

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a shipping, container, transport, freight forwarding, haulage, or logistics-related role.
  • Previous experience working within a container depot, port, shipping line, or logistics operation.
  • Knowledge of container control systems and depot management software.
  • Understanding of container terminology and shipping documentation.
