The Government Digital Service (GDS) is the digital centre of government. We are responsible for setting, leading and delivering the vision for a modern digital government.

Digital and Cyber Workforce and Capability
Join Government Digital and Cyber Capability, where our mission is to ensure the government possesses the necessary talent to drive digital transformation and secure public services. We're dedicated to enhancing the government's capacity to attract, recruit, nurture, and retain top tier digital and data professionals.
As part of the team, you will help shape the future of digital and cyber strategy and capabilities, providing vital insights that support cross departmental policies, standards, and strategies.

As the Content and Events Officer you be in a hands-on content maker role and bring Government Digital and Cyber Capability activity to life through event coverage, short-form video and practical storytelling. Working from briefs and strategic direction set by the Communications and Engagement Lead, the role will turn events, programmes and people stories into clear, useful and visually engaging content for priority channels.

Person specification
- Take briefs from the Communications and Engagement Lead and turn them into content ideas, scripts, shot lists, draft copy and finished assets.
- Capture content before, during and after events, including short videos, interview clips, vox pops, photography, quote cards, speaker highlights and behind-the-scenes moments.
- Film and edit simple short-form video content using accessible tools, ensuring outputs feel polished, on-message and suitable for government channels.
- Identify clever, low-cost ways to repurpose one event or story into multiple outputs across LinkedIn, newsletters, intranet, blogs and partner channels.
- Work with programme teams and event leads to spot strong stories, human moments, useful proof points and opportunities to showcase impact.
- Prepare practical event content materials, including capture lists, speaker prompts, social copy, post-event summaries and follow-up assets.
- Maintain a practical content pipeline, helping the team see what is being created, what is ready for approval and what can be reused.
- Apply agreed tone, accessibility, brand and approval requirements while bringing creative judgement to how content is packaged.
Essential Criteria
- Experience creating digital content, ideally including short-form video, photography, social posts or event content.
- Ability to take a brief, ask the right questions and turn direction into practical outputs.
- Basic filming and editing skills, with confidence using accessible tools such as a smartphone, Canva, CapCut, Adobe Express, Premiere Rush or equivalent.
- Good writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear copy, captions, scripts and summaries.
- Good creative judgement, including knowing how to make content feel engaging, purposeful and appropriate for the audience.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines, contributors, approvals and multiple pieces of content at once.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience capturing content at live events, webinars, roundtables, conferences or stakeholder sessions.
- Experience making social-first content for LinkedIn, intranet, newsletters, blogs, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels or similar formats.
- Understanding of content planning, channel objectives, accessibility and basic performance measurement.
- Experience working in government, public sector, technology, digital, data, cyber, education or workforce development.

Salary and Benefits

Office attendance
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.
