I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What We're Looking For
We are hiring for aptitude, judgement and mindset rather than a specific degree. You will ideally be:
- Highly detail-oriented with a strong instinct for accuracy
- An excellent writer and editor who can make complex ideas clear
- AI fluent, with evidence of using tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot extensively and intelligently to solve problems and improve outputs
- Numerically confident and comfortable with charts, percentages and data
- Organised and process-minded, always looking for a better way to work
- Commercially curious about business, consumers, technology and economics
- Ambitious and proactive, keen to learn quickly, take ownership and grow with the role
We welcome applicants from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including economics, business, marketing, communications, PR, journalism, PPE, social sciences and digital business.
Your degree subject matters less than what you can demonstrate.
Useful, but Not Essential
Experience or knowledge in areas such as retail, economics, automation, programming, digital publishing or data analysis would be valuable, but none is essential.
You do not need advanced econometrics, formal AI qualifications or detailed retail knowledge from day one. We can teach our sector, methodologies and internal processes. What matters most is your ability to learn quickly, think critically, communicate clearly and use technology intelligently.
