Marketing Apprentice

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Marketing Apprentice to join our growing marketing team at an exciting time for the business. This is a hands-on role that will give you the opportunity to experience a wide range of marketing activities, from photography and video production to social media, content creation, SEO, exhibitions, and advertising.

What you'll do at work

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Marketing Apprentice to join our growing marketing team at an exciting time for the business. This is a hands-on role that will give you the opportunity to experience a wide range of marketing activities, from photography and video production to social media, content creation, SEO, exhibitions, and advertising. You won’t just be learning about marketing from a textbook. You’ll be getting involved in real projects, creating content that will be seen by our customers and industry, and developing practical skills across a broad range of marketing disciplines.

General Responsibilities

A large part of your role will involve creating engaging visual and written content for Slaters Electricals. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking high-quality photographs of our transformers, switchgear, equipment, facilities, and projects
  • Editing and preparing images for use across our website and social media channels
  • Creating and editing video content for LinkedIn and other social media platforms
  • Operating our drone to capture aerial photography and video of our facilities, equipment, and projects
  • Writing social media posts and other marketing content
  • Planning and publishing content across our website, LinkedIn, and other social media channels

This is not just a role about content, photography, and video production, you will also have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about SEO and how to optimise content for search engines
  • Help plan and organise exhibitions and events
  • Supporting third-party advertising and promotional campaigns
  • Helping to maintain and update marketing materials
  • Monitoring social media and marketing performance
  • Coming up with new ideas for content and campaigns
  • Working with different teams across the business to identify interesting projects, products, and stories to share

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Interpret the aims of the brief.
  • Research ideas and concepts to meet the brief.
  • Evaluate brand requirements and brand guidelines.
  • Prepare a mood board or other visual aid for the content to be created.
  • Present ideas, pitches, and proposals for creative content to be further developed.
  • Storyboard and outline script their ideas for content to be developed.
  • Interpret data, consider its integrity, and use it to inform content.
  • Develop accessible written content for different platforms and devices.
  • Apply best practice and inclusive language when creating content.
  • Write and edit copy or scripts for use on different channels and platforms.
  • Create or capture visuals and audio using standard packages and equipment.
  • Source, obtain, and prepare media assets for use; using industry standard packages to adapt and edit content.
  • Use industry standard tools and content management systems to organise, structure, and label content effectively, methodically, and securely enabling efficient search and retrieval.
  • Identify and recommend the platform/s or channel/s to use for the media campaign.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and suppliers, establishing and using professional contacts.
  • Engage and respond with audiences through social media, adapting content to respond to evolving circumstances.
  • Monitor user experience to ensure content is focused on maximising engagement.
  • Analyse the differences between audiences using audience segmentation techniques and data.
  • Use lessons learned to evaluate the success of the content and identify areas for improvement for future campaigns.
  • Use continuing professional development planning to support own current and future training and development needs.
  • Operate effectively within the production workflow to meet production timelines.

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade Grade C/4)
    • Maths (grade Grade C/4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Slaters Electricals is a well-established business (over 100 years old) with a strong reputation in the electrical industry. We specialise in transformers and switchgear, supplying new and refurbished equipment and providing installation, maintenance, and repair services to customers across the UK. We also have a proven track record of developing apprentices within the business. Many of our former apprentices have gone on to build successful careers at Slaters, with several now holding senior positions within the company.
