DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS
On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Content Designer for a 8 Months (Inside IR35) contract based Hybrid/ in Leeds/Newcastle/Manchester/Sheffield/Blackpool.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. As such, we operate on a scale that is almost unmatched anywhere in Europe and most people in Britain come into contact with us at some point in their lives.
Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to:
- Help people to move into work and support those already in work to progress, with the aim of increasing overall workforce participation
- Help people to plan and save for later life, while providing a safety net for those who need it now
- Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society
- Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer.
As a Content Designer, your main responsibilities will be:
- Designing, writing and structuring intranet content using user‑centred design (UCD) principles
- Supporting with auditing, evaluating and improving existing content to meet defined user needs and organisational goals
- Working closely with interaction designers, developers, product managers and subject matter experts
- Applying content standards, style guides and accessibility requirements (including WCAG)
- Using research, analytics and feedback to continuously improve content
- Supporting governance, workflows and publishing processes within SharePoint
- Contributing to content models, information architecture and tagging to improve findability
- Managing multiple pieces of work while meeting agreed priorities and deadlines

Essential:
- Proven ability to design content based on user needs and evidence.
- Strong experience writing clear, concise and inclusive content for digital services.
- Skilled in content iteration, testing and improvement.
- Strong understanding of UCD methods and how content fits within end‑to‑end services.
- Practical experience applying accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.2.
- Ability to design content that works across different devices and assistive technologies.
- Content management systems – SharePoint (working level). Experience publishing and managing content in a CMS, ideally SharePoint.
- Understanding of page templates, components, metadata and workflows.
- Ability to work within technical and governance constraints. Content analysis and assurance (working level).
- Experience auditing and assessing large volumes of content.
- Ability to use analytics, search data and qualitative feedback to inform content decisions. Applying content standards consistently and supporting quality assurance.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
