Content Designer / Design Systems
6-month contract · £550–600/day outside IR35 · London / Remote · Start ASAP
Summary
Join the design systems team of a global consumer technology organisation as their first dedicated content designer. You'll set the documentation strategy and do the work to make it land, so the system becomes easier to understand, use and contribute to. This is both a strategic and hands-on role where you'll set the direction and write the pages.
The company
A global consumer technology business whose products are used by hundreds of millions of people. The design system team is currently a product manager and four product designers, with engineers contributing from across product teams.
The role
Component guidance currently lives in Figma, and other documentation sits in Confluence. You'll shape what the documentation looks like from here: its structure and standards, the platform it lives on, and how it stays current. You'll also help make the system ready for AI, which the team expects to accelerate over the next six months.
What you'll do
- Define the documentation strategy, information architecture, standards and terminology
- Audit the existing documentation and improve what matters most
- Recommend the documentation platform and tooling
- Document processes, ownership and contribution routes so they're easy to follow
- Set up a communications and onboarding approach for teams using the system
- Get people aligned where terminology, ownership or process is unclear

What we're looking for
- A background in content design, technical writing or UX writing
- Experience with design system documentation in Zeroheight, Supernova or a custom setup
- Strong skills in information structure, content strategy and setting standards
- Confidence working with design, engineering and product people without direct authority
- Current knowledge of how leading systems are preparing their documentation for AI
- Someone who's as comfortable rewriting a page as setting the strategy

The practical bit
- 6-month initial contract

- Remote, with some London travel likely once a new office opens.
