Legal Director, Construction Disputes - Edinburgh (Hybrid)
LHH is thrilled to be partnered with a leading national practice on a hugely rare Legal Director opportunity. The firm almost never hire externally at this level; given their structure, it is the equivalent of a junior partner position elsewhere.
About the Role
This is an opportunity to join a leading construction and engineering disputes practice, working on complex and high-value matters across the UK and internationally. You'll collaborate with highly regarded colleagues in a supportive and ambitious environment where individuals are encouraged to contribute, lead, and develop.
Due to the significant growth and investment that the disputes team is backed for, we are seeking a Legal Director to play a key role within a growing Construction & Engineering team, specialising in construction-related disputes including litigation, adjudication, and arbitration. The position offers significant scope to lead client relationships, support business development initiatives, mentor junior colleagues, and play an active role in shaping the future direction of the practice.

The team forms part of a large and well-established construction practice advising clients across a broad range of sectors, including:
- Energy and utilities
- Transport
- Real estate
- Infrastructure

The disputes practice continues to experience sustained growth and advises on a wide range of contentious matters, including:

Key Responsibilities

This senior role will involve:
- Leading complex construction disputes from inception through to resolution
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Supporting business development and practice growth initiatives
- Supervising, coaching, and developing lawyers across the team
- Managing key client accounts and strategic matters
- Contributing to the wider direction and success of the practice

Requirements
The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate:
- Extensive experience handling complex and high-value construction disputes
- Strong technical expertise across adjudication, arbitration, and litigation
- A proven track record in client relationship management and business development
- Experience supervising and developing lawyers and legal teams
- Excellent leadership, commercial awareness, and matter management skills
- A collaborative and inclusive approach to team working
- Qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales or Scotland (or equivalent jurisdictional qualification)
