The Role

Our growing Construction team is looking to recruit a talented Senior Associate or Principal Associate to join our nationally recognised non-contentious construction practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious lawyer seeking high quality work across some of the UK's most significant development, regeneration, infrastructure and energy projects. Working alongside leading lawyers across Real Estate, Energy & Infrastructure, Planning and Real Estate Finance, you will advise a diverse client base including developers, investors, occupiers, funders and public sector bodies.

At Shoosmiths, we combine exceptional client work with a collaborative and supportive culture. You'll be given early responsibility, direct client exposure and the opportunity to play a key role in complex, high profile projects from inception through to completion.

Your Work Will Include

  • Advising on a broad range of non-contentious construction matters across development, investment and infrastructure projects.
  • Drafting and negotiating JCT, NEC, bespoke construction contracts, and development agreements/ agreements for lease and associated transaction documents.
  • Advising on consultant appointments, collateral warranties, bonds, guarantees and third-party rights.
  • Supporting clients on procurement strategies, risk allocation and project delivery issues.
  • Working closely with colleagues across our national Real Estate and Infrastructure practices to provide seamless, commercially focused advice.
  • Contributing to client relationship management, business development initiatives and the continued growth of the practice.

The Team

Our Construction team is recognised for advising on some of the most exciting projects in the market. We work closely with clients across the built environment, supporting major development and regeneration schemes, infrastructure projects, energy developments and investment transactions throughout the UK.

We pride ourselves on delivering practical, commercially focused advice that helps clients achieve their objectives while managing risk effectively. Collaboration sits at the heart of our approach, both within the team and across the wider firm.

Shoosmiths embraces flexible hybrid working with team members typically working at least three days per week from the office to support collaboration, learning and team connection.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
