B P Collins is looking for a Contested Probate Solicitor to join our Dispute Resolution team.

This is an opportunity to work on sensitive, technically interesting disputes involving wills, trusts, estates, and personal representatives, while being part of a highly regarded team known for its practical, commercial, and client-focused approach.

The role would suit NQ- 2PQE solicitors who enjoy both the technical detail of contentious probate and the human side of helping clients through difficult, often emotionally complex disputes.

The Role

You will work closely within our Contested Probate Team and the wider Dispute Resolution team, advising clients on a broad range of contested probate matters. The work will include negotiation, mediation, and litigation, with a focus on achieving clear, proportionate, and commercially sensible outcomes.

You will also support colleagues across the firm where contested probate issues overlap with private client, property, and real estate matters.

The work will include:

  • Advising on matters involving:
    • Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act
    • Challenges to the validity of wills
    • Disputes involving executors and personal representatives
    • Applications for the removal of personal representatives
    • Trust disputes
    • Mutual wills disputes
    • Estate administration disputes
    • Property-related issues arising within contested estates

You will meet clients, assess the facts, advise on strategy and costs, prepare correspondence and court documents, instruct counsel where appropriate, and help progress matters through settlement, mediation, or trial.

About You

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
